About Us

ThisGirlCan Initiative CBO

Our journey started back in 2020 when our founder sat with a small group of teenage girls – shy, bright, and curious in Ndori Village, Siaya County. They spoke in hushed tones about periods, pregnancy, fear, and the shame they carried simply for being girls, highlighting the challenges they faced in accessing period products, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic.

That conversation changed everything and from that humble beginning, ThisGirlCan Initiative was born. We officially became a community-based organization (CBO) with one mission: to empower adolescent girls in rural Kenya with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to take charge of their health and their future.

What began as a handful of girls under a tree is now a growing movement. We’ve reached hundreds of young girls with SRHR education, menstrual health support, and life skills training.

Mission

Mission - ThisGirlCan Initiative empowers adolescent girls by providing a safe space where they can express themselves freely, providing opportunities for their self-growth and development, and equipping them with knowledge and menstrual products for a dignified menstruation.

Vision

To create an all-inclusive community that will see adolescent girls become successful, self-reliant and confident members of the community, while eliminating the barriers to proper menstrual health management.
